The National Retail Federation expects internet sales to expand up to 12 percent in 2017, following a 16 percent growth in 2016. The logistics industry that fulfills those online sales is growing in tandem, and both industries face a steep talent shortfall.

New technologies aimed at streamlining e-commerce and logistics are in constant development. Logistics organizations are adopting Internet of Things products for everything from tracking products to indicating when a truck driver needs a rest break. In e-commerce, emerging tech aims to improve the end-to-end customer experience and better manage the supply chain.

From January 2017 to June 2017, the available e-commerce and logistics talent supply met only a portion of demand. Below is supply and talent demand data sourced from CareerBuilder’s Insights portal:
